BWL members were given plenty of food for thought when solicitor Kelly Taylor lifted the lid on the minefield of employment law.
Kelly, who works for Langleys, welcomed women to the company’s Doddington Road offices where she gave a humorous talk about how society’s drive towards equality for men and women has led to the development of both the Equal Pay Act and the Sex Discrimination Act over the past 30 years.
The group also heard how changes made to the rules over three decades mean that bosses now have to think very carefully about everything, from the way in which they write recruitment advertisements to their interviewing style and how they handle dismissals and redundancies.
Kelly also talked about the way in which Employment Tribunals and the Courts deal with sex discrimination cases.
It was clear that everyone at the meeting picked-up new nuggets of information and the session led to a lively discussion and some searching questions!
Kelly’s job obviously keeps her busy in today’s fast-changing world, but she still finds time to run the highly successful Gainsborough Business Breakfast Club and this year she is also organising the Gainsborough Business Awards.
