Summer Ladies Luncheon 1st July 2009
The Petwood Hotel in glorious sunshine provided the perfect venue for the annual BWL Ladies Summer event which took place on 1st July. The members and guests who attended were treated to stunning sunshine and a Pimms reception on the terrace. The theme this year was flowers/colours of Summer and as you can see we certainly had a wonderful display!
The dinner was excellent and the service efficient and friendly. We followed dinner with a lively and entertaining presentation from our own Membership Secretary Sarah Steel. Those of you who do not know Sarah she commenced her working life, following University, in the Army and on having children left and set up her own day nursery. Her business rapidly expanded to 13 nurseries around the UK.
Sarah shared with us her top tips which included keeping grounded, surrounding yourself with positive people, taking time out/me time from the business and investing in a PR adviser. Sarah spoke of the positive PR opportunities offered to her by applying for and winning awards including the Yell.Com award for outstanding business mum and winning the Lincolnshire Business Award in 2007.
Sarah and her nursery staff have recently written and published a book “All Aboard”, a book of exciting activities in inspire children of all ages and Sarah donated one of her books as a raffle prize. There was an impressive raffle in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and members and guests heard a brief presentation on the work of the Trust from Dawn Osko Steer, The Regional Fundraising Manager for the East Midlands. Dawn is seen here in the photograph receiving a cheque for £263 from Kate Hindmarch, Chair of BWL. Thanks to all those who provided raffle prizes (listed below) and those who bought the raffle tickets and took part in our fun game of Heads & Tails!
The stands provided by members had the perfect combination of business and pleasure with information from Trading Standards and shoes and handbags for sale from Shoes Galore.
