Lincoln College 21st October 2009

HOSTED BY LINCOLN COLLEGE

Rachel May, Director of Employment Engagement explained that the College is involved in business development and that College staff will visit employers to ascertain how the College can help with their learning needs.

Business Advisers from the College will help employers with training and skills planning and advise on any funding available.

The College also holds a contract to support those long term unemployed back into work.  The programme consists of sector specific routeways and attendance does not affect a claimants benefits.  The College works closely with Job Centre Plus to ensure that this contract is successful.

After afternoon tea we toured the Sessions building including the old Courthouse (those of us who are Solicitors were reminded of the fact the building used to house the Magistrates Court and Police Station) and we then crowded into an original cell.

Sue Van Zyl, Assistant Principal at the College informed us about the Sessions Restaurant.  This is the College training restaurant in the Old Courthouse which still has original Court features.  The restaurant and bar are open every lunchtime during the week, term time, to the general public.  There are bar snacks as well as a full gourmet menu.  The menu is priced very competitively and the students prepare and serve the food supervised by qualified staff.

We moved onto the School of Care and Salon Services and were treated to mini treatments (manicures and facials) by the third year students in the Salon. The Salon is also open to the general public during term time and the services are very competitively priced - in fact a complete bargain.

Some of the ladies were able to stay on in the evening to dine at Sessions Restaurant.  Those of us who did were suitably impressed by the menu, standard of the food and the service and would highly recommend both the Sessions Restaurant and hair and beauty treatments to any members of BWL.
